Two soldiers and two civilians lost their lives last week when terrorists ambushed army vehicles in the Baramulla district. An Indian Army vehicle came under attack on Monday morning in Jammu and Kashmir’s Akhnoor area. Alert soldiers thwarted the assault. “An army vehicle was fired upon in the Battal area of Akhnoor. There were no injuries or casualties reported. A search operation is underway,” confirmed Army officials, adding that “alert troops prevented the likely terror attack.”
Just last week, an ambush on army vehicles in the Baramulla district led to the deaths of two soldiers and two civilians. Officials reported that a convoy carrying Rashtriya Rifles personnel and civilian porters was en route to the Nagin post in the Afrawat range when terrorists fired upon two army trucks near Botapathri, around 6 km from the popular tourist site of Gulmarg. Days before this, terrorists fatally shot a local doctor and sixmigrant laborers at a tunnel construction site in Gagangir, Ganderbal. On Saturday, the Indian Army’s Romeo Force, in collaboration with the Special Operations Group (SOG) police, uncovered a terror hideout in Poonch’s Balnoi sector.
The past two weeks have seen a surge in terror attacks across Jammu and Kashmir, claiming over a dozen lives and unsettling the region following the recent assembly elections. On Saturday, Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha vowed to avenge the innocent bloodshed and stated that every resource would be deployed to dismantle the terror networks, as reported by ANI.
“Unfortunately, our neighbor has, since independence, perpetually supported terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir. Despite its internal challenges of poverty and hunger, it remains committed to its unholy activities of backing terrorism and trafficking narcotics,” said the Lieutenant Governor. Addressing the recent attacks in Ganderbal and Baramulla, he highlighted that terrorists had targeted “our soldiers, civilians, infrastructure workers, and migrant laborers.” He added, “Our security forces are resolute in avenging every drop of innocent blood. In these challenging times, India’s frontline defenders must exercise heightened vigilance.”
