Novak Djokovic is in the tenth US Open singles final, after defeating the American Ben Shelton. The Siberian star battled a little bit hard to reach the final, winning by 6-3, 6-2, and 7-6.
The next challenger he will face in the final is Medvedev, who defeated Alcaraz in the semi-final.
Djokovic had played 47 big semi-final matches, but this was Shelton’s first. Djokovic’s experience showed when he hit a great shot and won the first game of the third set. But the Americans started playing well toward the end. He saved a break point by hitting a super-fast 143 mph (230 kph) ace in the fifth game, and the crowd cheered loudly for him.
Shelton, who was playing his seventh U.S. Open singles match, won a long 30-shot rally and then scored a point to break Djokovic’s serve in the eighth game. This made Djokovic surprised and a bit humbled, was playing his 100th singles match at this major tournament.
Djokovic managed to break Shelton’s serve again in the 11th game, but he made a mistake in the 12th game by hitting the ball into the net. This mistake allowed Shelton to break back, and so the set went into a tiebreak.
The match had more security because of a strange event on Thursday night. A protester glued his feet to the floor of Arthur Ashe Stadium, which made a semi-final match between American Coco Gauff and Czech Karolina Muchova stop for almost an hour.
Medvedev broke the dream of Alcaraz and entered the US Open Final In the recent semi-final, Medvedev defeated the current US Open champion Alcaraz and met Djokovic in the Final of the US Open on Sunday.
Right when the U.S. Open was about to have a great weekend, Daniil Medvedev did something typical of him and spoiled everything. By defeating Carlos Alcaraz by 7-6 (3), 6-1, 3-6, 6-3, the current champion and 20-year-old rising star in the sport, 27-year-old Medvedev, known for his quirky playing style and sense of humor, disrupted the exciting plans to see the young Alcaraz continue his rivalry with Novak Djokovic.
