Telangana Police SIT Questions Former SIB Chief in Phone Tapping Case

The Special Investigation Team (SIT) of the Telangana Police on Saturday questioned former Special Intelligence Bureau (SIB) chief T. Prabhakar Rao in connection with the telephone tapping case during the previous Bharat Rashtra Samithi government. Rao, the prime accused in the case, was confronted with statements given by previously interrogated suspects.

- Confrontation with Statements: The SIT authorities confronted Rao with statements given by former Deputy Superintendent of Police D. Praneeth Rao, retired Deputy Commissioner of Police P. Radha Kishan Rao, and Additional Superintendents of Police N. Bhujanga Rao and M. Thirupathanna.
- Uncooperative Stance: Rao was reportedly uncooperative and adopted a confrontational stance during the questioning, evading key questions by claiming he did not recall events related to the surveillance scandal.
- Destruction of Evidence: Praneeth Rao had earlier confessed to destroying hard disks containing evidence on Prabhakar Rao’s instructions. However, Prabhakar Rao denied issuing any such orders.
- Investigation Findings: The SIT is trying to elicit more information based on data retrieved from hard disks recovered from the Musi River.
