Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Tejashwi Yadav criticized Prashant Kishor’s Jan Suraaj Party, accusing it of acting as the “B-team” for Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s ruling alliance. In a video message released late Sunday, hours after police used water cannons to disperse students protesting the recent BPSC exam, Yadav claimed that the protesters were “misled” into marching to Gandhi Maidan, indirectly pointing at Kishor and his party.

“This movement was initiated by students, and the nearly two-week-long dharna at Gardani Bagh, which I also visited recently, had unsettled the government. At this critical juncture, certain elements, functioning as the government’s B-team, entered the scene,” Yadav alleged. He further criticized the protest leaders for abandoning the students when police resorted to water cannons and lathi charges. “The protesters were misguided into heading to Gandhi Maidan despite clear warnings from the administration. And when the moment came to face the consequences, those who promised leadership fled,” he added.

Although Prashant Kishor was not present when the police used force, he had addressed the protesters earlier in the day. The events led to an FIR being filed against Kishor, Jan Suraaj Party president Manoj Bharti, and others. According to Patna District Magistrate Chandrashekhar Singh, the protesters, joined by Kishor at Gandhi Maidan, attempted to march towards the chief minister’s residence, prompting police action.

Yadav pledged his party’s political support for the protesters’ demand to cancel the Combined Competitive Exams held on December 13, in which over five lakh candidates participated at more than 900 centers statewide. He urged the students not to be swayed by “empty promises” and to continue their movement. “January 4 is still days away—enough time to force the government to act. The claim that BPSC operates independently of the government is baseless. Its chairman is appointed by the chief minister, who also oversees the Home Department, including the police,” he asserted.

The BPSC has announced a re-examination for over 10,000 candidates assigned to the Bapu Pariksha Parisar exam center in Patna, where hundreds boycotted the test, alleging a question paper leak. However, the BPSC dismissed these allegations, calling the disruption part of a “conspiracy” to derail the exam.
