Tata Motors’ Sanand Facility Commences Production, Unveiling New Milestones in Passenger Electric Mobility

Tata Motors’ subsidiary, Tata Passenger Electric Mobility (TPEM), has officially begun production of passenger vehicles at its Sanand facility in Gujarat. Acquired from Ford India in January 2023, this marks Tata Motors’ second plant in the state, equipped for both internal combustion engine (ICE) and electric vehicle manufacturing. The 460-acre facility boasts upgraded shops for stamping, body construction, paint, and final assembly, incorporating high automation and advanced technology.
The plant, with over 1000 staff and technicians, plans to hire an additional 1000 employees in the next 3 to 4 months to meet production growth. Tata Motors is also investing in employee education, offering diplomas, bachelor’s, and master’s degrees. The company emphasizes sustainability, featuring a 50 KW solar rooftop and aiming to achieve water positivity by December 2024.
Shailesh Chandra, Managing Director of Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles Limited & Tata Passenger Electric Mobility Limited, expressed pride in the accomplishment, stating that the facility’s retooling in just 12 months has elevated it to accommodate existing and future product ranges.
With the market-beating growth of Tata Motors’ Passenger & Electric Vehicles business in recent years, the new Sanand facility is expected to unlock a state-of-the-art manufacturing capacity of 300,000 units annually, scalable to 420,000 units.
