New Delhi: In an effort to modernise and simplify crime reporting, Delhi Police is set to launch a mobile application that will allow citizens to file complaints directly from their homes. The app, currently under development, is designed with a user-friendly interface that enables one-time registration and easy complaint lodging—covering everything from serious crimes to petty offences—without requiring a visit to the police station.
Currently, online complaints are mostly limited to thefts, burglaries, and pickpocketing, while other crimes often necessitate in-person reporting.
Joint Commissioner of Police (Vigilance) Aslam Khan said the goal is to make the complaint and investigation process more accessible, efficient, and transparent. “People won’t need to worry about visiting police stations or constantly following up. The app will offer a smooth experience and ensure quicker justice,” he explained.
The initiative is expected to benefit both citizens and police personnel. The app will automate much of the complaint-handling workflow—allowing officers to upload documents directly and send them up the chain for review. A speech-to-text feature will further help officers document cases efficiently. Complainants will receive regular updates and action reports via SMS.
This mobile application is part of a broader Integrated Petitions Monitoring System (IPMS), which is expected to roll out in the next six months. It aims to overcome the shortcomings of the current Integrated Complaint Monitoring System (ICMS), which lacks scalability, advanced data analytics, and real-time mobile access.
An officer involved with the project noted that the current system is not equipped with AI tools like optical character recognition (OCR) or document summarisation, limiting its efficiency. The upcoming IPMS will include role-based access, real-time petition tracking, a web dashboard for officers, and multilingual support to expand accessibility.
In addition to smoother complaint registration, the upgraded system will deliver performance dashboards and analytics on criminal trends, improving both service delivery and decision-making processes.
