News India Official: AAP’s Rajya Sabha MP Swati Maliwal attended Delhi CM Rekha Gupta’s oath-taking ceremony at Ramlila Maidan on Thursday, where Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other top BJP and NDA leaders were also present. Her appearance comes amid ongoing tensions with AAP leadership, despite being nominated to the Rajya Sabha by the party.
Extending her wishes to the new CM, Maliwal said, “My greetings to Delhi CM Rekha Gupta… The people of Delhi have chosen her with great expectations. I hope she meets those expectations…”
On Wednesday, after Gupta was announced as Delhi’s new CM, Maliwal—who had criticised AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal during the Assembly elections—congratulated her. She had also protested against Kejriwal over Yamuna pollution, collecting river water alongside Purvanchali women to highlight the issue.
Speaking to ANI on Thursday, Maliwal accused Kejriwal of betraying his anti-corruption movement, pointing out that CAG reports from 2016 have yet to be presented in the Vidhan Sabha. She urged the new government to disclose corruption details and take strict action while calling for the immediate cleanup of the Yamuna River, which she lamented has turned into a drainage system over the past decade.
Following the swearing-in, BJP legislators, including newly appointed ministers, are expected to inspect the Yamuna River.
