LUCKNOW: A suspect involved in multiple murder cases, including a recent one on January 9, was killed in a police encounter in Meerut early Saturday morning, according to a senior Uttar Pradesh police official. The suspect, Naeem, was accused of murdering his stepbrother, Mohd Moin, along with Moin’s wife, Aasma, and their three daughters, Afsha(8), Aziza(4), and Adiba(1), on January 9 in Meerut.

Naeem had a ₹50,000 bounty on his head and had been wanted for 25 years in a double murder case in Mumbai and for 19 years in a murder case in Delhi, stated UP Director General of Police (DGP) Prashant Kumar.

The DGP revealed that Naeem was apprehended after a 15-day pursuit. “The Meerut police encountered him near Samar Garden, in Madina Colony, while he was visiting family. When officers attempted to arrest him, Naeem opened fire, prompting retaliatory fire from the police. He sustained injuries and was declared dead at a local hospital,” Kumar said.

According to Meerut Zone Additional Director General Dhruv Kant Thakur, the gruesome discovery of five hacked bodies was made on January 9 in a one-room rented house in Sohail Garden under the Lisarigate police station. Naeem, whose last known location was with the victims, vanished after the incident. It is suspected that Naeem, along with his adopted son Salman, laced the victims’ food with sedatives on the night of January 8-9 before killing them.

Police also linked Naeem to the murders of two Azamgarh traders, Shadab and Asad, on January 22, 2006, over a land dispute in Mumbai. Naeem buried their bodies on the disputed plot after the killings. Additionally, he and his brother Tasleem were accused of murdering a relative in Delhi in 2000.

Naeem operated under multiple aliases, including Hussain in Malegaon, Zameel in Malad’s Ahmednagar area, and Guddu in Delhi, according to the police. He had three wives, with families living in separate locations in Mumbai and Delhi, but he avoided contacting them after committing the crimes.
