In the recent update in the case Arvind Kejriwal vs Directorate of Enforcement, the Supreme Court today issued notice to the Enforcement Directorate on Kejriwal’s plea against his arrest.
The two-judge bench of Justice Sanjiv Khanna and Justice Dipankar Datta sought the response from the agency. The further hearing of the case has been scheduled for April 29, 2024. Though Abhishek Manu Singhvi, appearing for Arvind Kejriwal, sought an earlier date, the Court reserved the matter for April 29.
Abhishek Manu Singhvi pointed out to the Judiciary the timing of Arvind Kejriwal’s arrest. He argued that the arrest of Arvind Kejriwal was to disable him from campaigning. “Arrest on March 21 is about the timing after the case was registered long back. The first round of polling is on April 19,” Singhvi said.
Solicitor General Tushar Mehta objected to this argument. The court remarked, “We know the facts and we have gone through the paper books. You should not have argued after we issued notice.”
Arvind Kejriwal knocked the door of the Supreme Court after the Delhi High Court’s order upholding his arrest in the Excise policy scam.
Arvind Kejriwal’s Judicial Custody has been extended until April 23, 2024, by Special Judge (PC Act) Kaveri Bajwa of the Rouse Avenue Court.
Arvind Kejriwal stressed that the center is misusing the agencies and its actions are a cock-a-snook at the constitution.
