Supreme Court Grants Bail to Arvind Kejriwal with Five Conditions Attached
Justices Surya Kant and Ujjal Bhuyan granted bail to Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal upon his submission of a bail bond worth ₹10 lakh, along with two sureties of the same amount.
On Friday, September 13, the Supreme Court granted bail to Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in a corruption case filed by the Central Bureau of Investigation regarding the excise policy ‘scam.’ However, the court prohibited him from entering the Chief Minister’s office or signing files. The bench, consisting of Justices Surya Kant and Ujjal Bhuyan, approved bail upon the submission of a ₹10 lakh bail bond and two sureties of the same amount. Kejriwal, who was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate on March 21 in connection with the excise policy case, received interim bail on May 10 for Lok Sabha election campaigning and has been in jail since June 2 after surrendering.
The conditions for his bail include:
- Providing a ₹10 lakh bail bond.
- Refraining from commenting on the Delhi excise policy case.
- Attending the trial unless exempted by the court.
- Not entering the Chief Minister’s office or the Delhi secretariat while out on bail.
- Avoid signing official files unless it is absolutely necessary to obtain the Lieutenant Governor’s approval.
