The Supreme Court on Tuesday strongly criticised YouTube personality Ranveer Allahbadia for making inappropriate remarks on Samay Raina’s India’s Got Latent show, stating that such conduct must be condemned. The apex court remarked that the podcaster harboured something “very dirty” in his mind, which he had “vomited” on the show.
“Such behavior must be condemned. Popularity does not grant one the right to disregard societal norms. Is there anyone who would find this language acceptable? There is something very dirty in his mind, which has been vomited. Why should we protect him?” the court stated, as reported by Bar and Bench.
Allahbadia had approached the Supreme Court seeking relief from multiple FIRs filed against him over his alleged objectionable comments on YouTube. He also sought the consolidation of all FIRs into one case.
A bench comprising Justices Surya Kant and N. Kotiswar Singh presided over the hearing.
Despite its criticism, the Supreme Court granted relief to Allahbadia by protecting him from arrest. However, the court also barred him from broadcasting any further YouTube shows.
