On the night of August 23, on the Delhi-Agra highway in the Palwal area near the Gadpuri toll plaza, 5-6 cow vigilantes in a car chased a vehicle from Faridabad, firing shots and pursuing it for about 10 km. After crossing the Gadpuri toll plaza, they shot and killed 12th-grade student Aryan Mishra, who was traveling with his family. The vigilantes had received information that cattle smugglers were traveling in a Duster car. They chased Aryan’s Duster car, mistaking him for a smuggler. Aryan asked his younger brother to drive faster, thinking they were being chased by goons. The vigilantes continued firing shots, hitting Aryan in the neck. When they stopped the car, they shot him again in the chest. Upon seeing women in the car, the attackers fled.

The crime branch team arrested four accused—Anil Kaushik, Varun, Krishna, and Adesh—who were identified as cow vigilantes. Anil Kaushik runs an organization called Live for Nation. The accused were remanded to two-day police custody. The crime branch team is now interrogating them.

The police team was surprised to find the accused sitting comfortably at home after committing the crime. During questioning, they claimed they hadn’t committed the crime. However, after checking CCTV footage of the route taken by the attackers, the police found the number of their Swift car and traced it to Anil Kaushik, solving the case.

The question remains: who gave these vigilantes the authority to chase any car, fire shots, and even commit murder in the name of cow protection? Has the cow become more important than human life?
