South Korean Girl Group “New Jeans” Makes Headlines for a Social Cause

K-pop sensation New Jeans, who always made headlines with their music, has recently grabbed everyone’s attention with their philanthropic efforts. On December 22, Chairman Kim Minja of “Snail of Love,” a charity working to help people with hearing loss problems, announced that New Jeans, along with their Adore CEO Min Hee Jin, had donated a generous amount to the organization to support people with hearing problems.
This donation was made as part of their highly successful album sales and was extended to the welfare organization for a social cause. It will be used for the sound search support project, which sponsors artificial cochlear surgery for the hearing impaired, support for external device replacements, and support for speech rehabilitation therapy.
Furthermore, due to this donation, they have been included in the “Soul Leader Club,” which is a high-value sponsor club only for those whose donations exceed 99 million Won ($76,241.23 USD). New Jeans has officially become the seventh member to join this club by making donations from their record sales revenue. This was not the first time that they were in the news for their kind and generous actions. The group made their first donation to this charitable organization back in 2022.
After the news broke out, all the members of the group took to the group’s official Instagram and wrote a heartfelt message for everyone. The girl group wrote that after making their donation last year, they were deeply touched and inspired by the stories of all those people who had received help from that donation. They mentioned that they learned how they were able to help a deaf child who had never heard his birthday song before and an individual who had become distant from everyone around due to communication difficulties. They ended the message by stating that in the future, they would like to reach more people through good music, continue supporting the deaf community through future sponsorships, and keep giving them the ‘gift of sound.’
New Jeans is a South Korean girl group formed by ADOR, a music label functioning under Hybe Corporation. This group is made up of five extremely talented members: Minji, Hanni, Danielle, Haerin, and Hyein. The group debuted on July 22, 2022, with their single “Attention,” which became their first number-one song on South Korea’s Circle Digital Chart. In January 2023, they released their first single album, OMG, which was accompanied by two singles, “Ditto” and “OMG.” “Ditto” soon became the longest-running number-one song on the Circle Digital Chart and led to the group’s first entry on both the Billboard Hot 100 and the UK Singles Chart.
Their second EP, Get Up, reached the number one spot on the US Billboard 200 and sold over one million copies in South Korea itself. Its lead single, “Super Shy,” became the group’s highest-charting single on the Billboard Global 200 at number two, followed by the US Billboard Hot 100 and the UK Singles Chart. The group is widely appreciated for their girl-next-door image along with their 1990s- and 2000s-indebted pop and R&B songs with influences of various dance and club styles.
After hearing about this philanthropic effort of the group, fans immediately went to their social media accounts and heaped uncountable praise on this group. Fans expressed their pride for this girl group by writing messages like, “I stan the right group.” The fans did not forget about the girl group’s company, ADORE for this appreciable effort. In appreciation of the group and the company, the fans wrote, “Best girls Best company.”
