On Friday, August 11, the Rashtriya Hindu Parishad Bharat declared a reward of Rs 10 lakh for individuals capable of slapping or spitting on actor Akshay Kumar due to his portrayal of God Shiva (which has now been revised to the messenger of God by the CBFC) in his movie “OMG 2.” The announcement of the reward came from Govind Parashar, the president of the Hindu organization. Activists of the group also set fire to effigies of Akshay Kumar and posters of the film on Thursday in Agra. In the film, Akshay Kumar assumes the role of God Shiva’s messenger, depicted standing with characteristic dreadlocks, purchasing kachoris, and bathing in a contaminated pond. According to Parashar, the film ‘tarnishes the image of the deity’ and accuses Kumar of offending Hindu sentiments.

The outfit, demanding a ban on “OMG 2,” issued a warning of further protests unless their demands are met. Directed by Amit Rai, “OMG 2” has been mired in controversies ever since the release of its posters and its interactions with the CBFC. The censor board awarded the film an ‘A’ certificate and requested various cuts. On August 1, the CBFC granted clearance to the film with “a few modifications,” leading to its release in theaters the previous day.

Resentment towards the film is also intensifying in other cities. Sadhvi Rithambara of Vrindavan, the founder of Durga Vahini, strongly criticized the satirical comedy that premiered on August 11. Speaking at her Vatsalya Gram ashram, Rithambhara stated, “It is Hinduism’s leniency that emboldens Bollywood to repeatedly engage in such audacity. They hesitate to make remarks about any religion apart from Hinduism.”

Furthermore, the priests of Ujjain’s Mahakal Temple have demanded the exclusion of certain scenes filmed within the temple premises, deeming them “indecent.”

Akshay Kumar’s film ‘OMG 2’ was released in theaters on Friday. The movie serves as a sequel to the 2012 film ‘OMG – Oh My God,’ in which Kumar and Paresh Rawal played leading roles. Alongside Akshay Kumar, the film also stars Pankaj Tripathi and Yami Gautam.
