India’s opener Shubman Gill and pacer Mohammed Siraj took the top spots on Wednesday in the batting and bowling charts, respectively, in the ICC ODI rankings. Siraj dethroned South Africa’s spinner Keshav Maharaj in the bowlers’ list, while Gill took the place of Pakistan captain Babar Azam at the top of the batting chart.
Gill became the fourth player from India to hold the No. 1 ODI batter ranking, behind Virat Kohli, Mahendra Singh Dhoni, and Sachin Tendulkar. Gill overtook Babar on the strength of his strong start to India’s World Cup campaign.
Over the past week, the right-hander has amassed 219 runs from six innings in the ongoing tournament, including scores of 92 against Sri Lanka and 23 against South Africa.
Babar’s reign of more than two years as the top-ranked ODI batter in the world came to an end as he finished with 282 runs from eight knockouts during the World Cup, six rating points fewer than Gill in second place.
Following his incredible World Cup run, Virat Kohli has moved up to fourth place among other Indian batsmen, and captain Rohit Sharma is ranked sixth.
As of right now, Kohli leads all run-scorers in India with 543 runs at an average of 108.60 from the eighth wicket, which includes two hundreds and four fifties. South Africa’s Quinton de Kock, who is ranked third, is one rating point behind Kohli. Shreyas Iyer, a middle-order batter, moved up 17 spots as well to take 18th place.
Both Fakhar Zaman, the first player for Pakistan (up three spots to 11th), and Ibrahim Zadran, the player for Afghanistan (up six spots to 12th), made progress.
Siraj, meanwhile, shot to the top of the bowlers’ standings with his strong performance thus far in the competition.
In eight matches, Siraj has taken ten wickets at an economy rate of 5.23, knocking Maharaj out of the top spot.
Other Indian bowlers, Mohammed Shami, has jumped seven places to be ranked 10th, and fellow Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah has climbed three spots to rank eighth.
Kuldeep Yadav, a left-arm wrist spinner, also moved up three spots to claim fourth place, and fellow tweaker Ravindra Jadeja climbed eight spots to claim 19th place.
Shakib Al Hasan, the captain of Bangladesh, is at the top of the all-rounders’ chart, with Jadeja being the highest-ranked Indian at position 10.
With 14 wickets from eight matches at a respectable economy rate of 3.76, including a five-for, Jadeja is currently India’s third-highest wicket-taker in the competition. In four innings, he has amassed 111 runs at an average of 55.50 with the bat.
Hardik Pandya has dropped to 13th place and will miss the rest of the tournament after injuring his ankle in India’s fourth-round match against Bangladesh.
