Shocking Twist! Shiv Sena Leader’s Son’s Secret Bangkok Trip Ends Mid-Air as Flight Gets Mysteriously Diverted!
The investigation uncovered that the Shiv Sena leader’s son, along with two friends, had secretly arranged a chartered flight to Bangkok without informing his family.

Rushiraj Sawant, son of former Maharashtra minister Tanaji Sawant, was en route to Bangkok on a chartered flight when it was unexpectedly diverted mid-air back to Pune. The flight, which had already passed Port Blair, was turned around after police received an anonymous tip alleging that Sawant had been kidnapped. Unaware of the situation, Rushiraj and his two friends were stunned when they landed in Pune instead of Bangkok, as the crew followed orders from aviation authorities and the police.
Initially, the pilots dismissed the recall order as a possible hoax but complied after verifying with aviation officials, PTI reported. The chartered flight, carrying Rushiraj and his friends, returned to Pune between 8:00 and 8:30 pm on Monday, cutting short their trip. The journey had been kept secret from his father, Tanaji Sawant, a leader of the ruling Shiv Sena. The decision to divert the flight was taken only after thorough verification, an airline executive confirmed. Rushiraj and his friends described their visit to Bangkok as a “business trip.” However, their return was expedited after the police registered a kidnapping case based on the anonymous tip and Tanaji Sawant’s intervention.
An airline executive revealed that when the initial request to turn the flight around came from family members, it was not taken seriously due to concerns over possible hoax calls. However, after verification by the Ministry of Civil Aviation and the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) and the confirmation of an ongoing police investigation, the flight was ordered to return. This incident is believed to be the first time a flight has been recalled mid-air due to a criminal case against a passenger.
Typically, such diversions occur only in cases of medical or technical emergencies. To avoid alerting the passengers and causing unnecessary disturbance, the crew did not inform them of the route change. The in-flight navigation screens were switched off, and the trio remained unaware as they relaxed after their meal. Upon landing at Pune International Airport, Rushiraj and his friends were shocked and angrily questioned the pilots, who stated that they were simply following instructions. CISF personnel then escorted them off the plane. The flight operator cooperated with DGCA requests, providing all necessary information and explaining the protocols followed.
The situation unfolded after Pune police received an anonymous call at 4:00 pm on Monday, claiming that Rushiraj had been kidnapped. This led to the swift registration of a kidnapping case, with his father, Tanaji Sawant, seeking police intervention. Later, investigations revealed that Rushiraj and his friends had secretly booked the chartered flight without informing their families. He later admitted to the police that he had kept the trip a secret to avoid upsetting his family.
