The Ahmedabad police crime branch and the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence apprehended an individual in Aurangabad on Saturday. The suspect, a chemical engineer and former Surat pharma employee, was arrested for operating a narcotics empire. This empire supplied drugs to various cities and catered to exclusive and high-profile rave parties in Mumbai.
During the operation, law enforcement officials discovered two hidden facilities in Maharashtra’s Aurangabad. These facilities contained a substantial amount of chemicals, totaling 23,000 liters. These chemicals were intended for the illegal production of mind-altering substances such as ketamine, mephedrone, and cocaine.
The joint operation, which involved the DRI, resulted in the seizure of a significant amount of contraband. Approximately 23 kg of cocaine, around 17 kg of mephedrone, and 4.3 kg of ketamine were confiscated. These illicit substances were destined for the treacherous black market. The estimated value of the entire haul, including psychotropic substances and raw chemicals, was an astounding Rs 500 crore.
According to sources from the crime branch, the suspect, Jitesh Hinhoria, abandoned his legitimate career approximately a year and a half ago. He ventured into the illicit world of narcotics production and established his underground operation in Aurangabad.
Hinhoria primarily distributed cocaine in Mumbai, while other psychotropic drugs were distributed in Ratlam, Indore, Delhi, Chennai, and Surat. Chennai served as the principal market for ketamine, while Surat had numerous clients for mephedrone, as per the police sources.
