PM Sheikh Hasina resigned on Monday, August 5, after the anti-reservation movement in Bangladesh turned violent. Army Chief General Waqar-uz-Zaman confirmed this. In a press conference in Dhaka, he said that the army will now form an interim government.

According to Bangladeshi newspaper Prothom Alo, there have been clashes between protesters and police at many places. More than 6 people have died in this. Protestors have captured important highways in Tangail and Dhaka.

98 people died on Sunday. According to news agency PTI, more than 300 people have died in violence here in the last three weeks.

Meanwhile, Bangladesh Army Chief Waqar-uz-Zaman will address the nation at 3 pm. Earlier he had talked about addressing the nation at 1:30 pm. At present, he is holding meetings with leaders of different political parties.

AFP quoted sources as saying that PM Sheikh Hasina took off in a military helicopter at 2:30 pm on Monday.
