At the Grammy Awards, the fusion band Shakti won the Best Global Music Album. Renowned musicians including Shankar Mahadevan, Ganesh Rajagopalan, John McLaughlin, Zakir Hussain, and V Selvaganesh are in the ensemble.

At the Grammy Awards, held on February 5 at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, the fusion band Shakti, which included violinist Ganesh Rajagopalan, drummer V Selvaganesh, vocalist Shankar Mahadevan, John McLaughlin, and Zakir Hussain, won the Global Music Album category. (IST) With their most recent album, “This Moment,” the reformed worldwide fusion group Shakti has won the esteemed title of Best Global Music Album.

Since this is the group’s first new album in more than 45 years, it represents a momentous milestone. With John McLaughlin on guitar and guitar synth, Zakir Hussain on tabla, Shankar Mahadevan on vocals, V Selvaganesh on percussion, and Ganesh Rajagopalan on violin, the CD features eight brand-new songs by the outstanding group. Shakti won the Grammy for Best Global Music Album despite fierce opposition from musicians including Susana Baca, Bokante, Burna Boy, and Davido. This victory highlights their lasting impact and widespread recognition for their unique musical mix.

In a photo uploaded to the Grammys’ official X (formerly known as Twitter) account, Mahadevan and another band member, Ganesh Rajagopalan, are shown on stage receiving the prize. “Happy with ‘This Moment’ Shakti’s win for Best Global Music Album. #GRAMMYs,” the Grammy said in the post.

“Thank you, boys,” Mahadevan remarked in an acceptance speech. God, family, friends, and India, I am grateful. India, you have our admiration. Finally, but just as importantly, I want to dedicate this honor to my wife, to whom I owe every note of my music. The audience cheered enthusiastically at the musician’s remarks.

In the meantime, Zakir Hussain won the Grammy for “Best Global Music Performance” for his work on “Pashto,” which features virtuoso flute musician Rakesh Chaurasia, together with Bela Fleck and Edgar Meyer. Chaurasia received two Grammys, but Hussain won three in a single evening.

In addition to Miley Cyrus and Taylor Swift, this year’s Grammy Awards honorees featured flautist Rakesh Chaurasia, who took home the Best Global Music Performance trophy, and percussionist Zakir Hussain. The Grammy-winning tune Pashto, which they performed, features American musicians Edgar Meyer and Bela Fleck. Prime Minister Narendra Modi was one of the nominees for Falu’s Abundance in Millets, while Arooj Aftab and Vijay Iyer’s Shadow Forces were also nominated.

The three major Grammy Awards went to Miley Cyrus for Record of the Year, Billie Eilish for Song of the Year, and Taylor Swift for Album of the Year. Miley Cyrus won Best Pop Solo Performance, and Taylor Swift took home the Best Pop Vocal Album award.
