As Al-Shifa hospital is attacked, fierce fighting in Gaza intensifies. Palestinians blame Israel for the casualties they report. Amid mass displacement and rocket threats against Tel Aviv, calls for a ceasefire are growing.

Al-Shifa, the largest hospital compound in Gaza, came under attack on Friday, marking a turning point in the conflict between Israel and Hamas. The hospital director and the Hamas government blamed Israeli forces for the attack, which left 13 people dead, according to Palestinian reports of a deadly strike.

Mohammad Abu Salmiya, director of Al-Shifa Hospital, stated that a strike hit the compound’s maternity ward, resulting in two deaths and ten injuries. Numerous people were reportedly injured in the Israeli strike on the hospital compound, according to the Hamas government. Israel refrained from commenting on the incident right away.

The Israeli Army has asserted that Hamas uses hospitals, especially Al-Shifa, as commanders’ hideouts and as a means of coordinating attacks. Authorities in Hamas, however, reject these claims.

Residents of Al-Shifa, who were fleeing the ongoing fighting, expressed fear and said, “There is no safe place left.” Al-Shifa was hit by the Army. I have no idea what to do. Hundreds of people were reportedly ordered to evacuate after the Israeli military reportedly surrounded Al-Rantisi hospital in Gaza City.

Air raid sirens blared in Tel Aviv as long as the violence in Gaza continued. The Israeli commercial hub was allegedly targeted by rockets fired by Hamas’s military wing, although no immediate casualties were reported.

Due to the conflict in the heavily populated coastal area, a large number of people have been forced to flee south with their limited belongings. The desperate situation in Gaza has been exacerbated by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s rejection of a ceasefire despite growing calls for one to safeguard civilians and enable humanitarian aid.
