Three coaches of the Secunderabad-Shalimar Superfast Express (Train No. 22850) derailed close to Nalpur Station in Howrah, West Bengal.

On Saturday morning, three coaches of the Secunderabad-Shalimar Superfast Express (Train No. 22850) derailed near Nalpur Station in Howrah, West Bengal. South Eastern Railway’s Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO) Omprakash Charan confirmed that the incident, involving three coaches, including the B1 coach, occurred early in the morning, causing concern among passengers and authorities. Charan assured that there were no reported injuries or fatalities. Indian Railways quickly dispatched accident relief and medical aid trains from Santragachi and Kharagpur to assist, while buses were arranged to transport passengers to Kolkata. “The derailment happened at 5:31 am as the train moved from the middle line to the down line. One parcel van and two passenger coaches derailed. No significant injuries or casualties were reported, and about 10 buses were arranged for onward travel,” Charan added.

Over the past five years, data from the Indian Railways revealed 351 deaths and 970 injuries from 200 railway accidents, according to The Hindu. Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw recently noted that the number of annual accidents had decreased from 171 a decade ago to 40 during a visit to the Kolkata-based PSU Braithwaite and Co.
