Delhi-NCR schools are gearing up to implement hybrid learning as anti-pollution measures under the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP-4) take effect in the capital starting Monday night, following a severe Air Quality Index (AQI).
Under the GRAP-4 restrictions, hybrid classes—offering both online and offline options—will be mandatory for students in Classes VI to IX and XI in Delhi and districts like Gurugram, Faridabad, Ghaziabad, and Gautam Buddh Nagar where online learning is feasible. The decision to opt for online classes will be left to students and their guardians.
Other NCR districts have also been advised to adopt hybrid learning wherever possible under the GRAP-4 guidelines. The move comes as Delhi’s AQI crossed the critical threshold, reaching 399 at 9 pm and 401 at 10 pm on Monday.
In addition, the administration in Uttar Pradesh’s Gautam Buddh Nagar has mandated a 9 am start for all school classes beginning Tuesday due to cold weather conditions. An official order stated, “All schools in Gautam Buddh Nagar to start from 9 am on Tuesday in view of cold weather conditions.”
Dharmveer Singh, the District Inspector of Schools (DIOS), emphasized, “In view of the extreme cold, as per the instructions of the District Magistrate, Gautam Buddh Nagar, classes in all schools will commence at 9 am until further notice. All principals are directed to ensure strict adherence to these instructions.”
