The Center said in a separate affidavit it submitted on Wednesday that the Ministry of Education has asked IIT Madras to perform extensive data analytics of the NEET-UG 2024 candidates’ results in accordance with the Supreme Court’s instruction.
“This analysis indicates that there is no proof of widespread malpractice or a specific group of candidates receiving preferential treatment, resulting in anomalous scores,” the statement added, citing the conclusions provided by IIT Madras specialists.
According to the affidavit, IIT Madras’s data show that there is no anomaly because the mark distribution is bell-shaped, as is typical of any large-scale test. On Wednesday, the Supreme Court was notified by the Center that there was no proof of widespread cheating or of particular candidate groups unfairly benefiting from anomalous NEET-UG 2024 scores.
In the meantime, the Supreme Court received a second affidavit from the National Testing Agency (NTA), which administers the esteemed NEET-UG test. At the national, state, city, and centre levels, they examined the distribution of marks in the NEET-UG 2024 exam.
In its affidavit, the NTA stated, “This analysis indicates that the distribution of marks is quite normal, and there seems to be no extraneous factor that would influence the distribution of marks.”
Previous affidavits from the NTA and the centres argued against eliminating NEET-UG 2024, claiming lakhs of honest applicants would suffer as a result and that there was no proof of massive breaches of confidentiality.
The court is also investigating whether any irregularities in the score patterns that could point to leaky recipients could be found with the aid of data analytics. A group of appeals concerning the contentious medical entrance exam NEET-UG 2024, including those claiming anomalies and malpractices in the May 5 test and requesting a directive to conduct it again, are set to be heard by a bench led by Chief Justice D.Y. Chandrachud on Thursday.
