On Monday, the Supreme Court granted YouTuber Ranveer Allahbadia permission to resume uploading his podcasts and shows on social media. However, the court mandated that he submit an undertaking ensuring The Ranveer Show upholds “morality and decency” and remains suitable for all age groups.
Earlier, the court had restricted Allahbadia from airing his podcast following controversy over his inappropriate remarks on Samay Raina’s YouTube show. A bench comprising Justices Surya Kant and N. Kotiswar Singh considered Allahbadia’s plea, in which he emphasized that his podcast is his primary source of income and supports around 280 employees.
Additionally, the court extended his interim protection from arrest until further notice, directing him to cooperate with the ongoing investigation in Guwahati.
The controversy erupted after Allahbadia made controversial remarks on the YouTube show India’s Got Latent, leading to multiple FIRs against him. The Maharashtra Cyber Cell and Mumbai Police are currently investigating his statements made on comedian Samay Raina’s show.
On Monday, Allahbadia and fellow YouTuber Ashish Chanchlani appeared separately before the Maharashtra Cyber Cell to record their statements in an obscenity case filed against them and others. According to officials, Allahbadia admitted that he erred in making controversial comments on the show, acknowledging the backlash he received. He also admitted to using inappropriate language and clarified that he had attended the show as a favor to his friend, Samay Raina, without any financial incentive.
