Meerut: An inquiry has been initiated against Brahmpuri Station House Officer (SHO) Ramakant Pachori for allegedly failing to seal the room of Sahil Shukla, one of the prime accused in the brutal murder of former merchant navy officer Saurabh Rajput.

This lapse has sparked concerns over possible evidence tampering, especially after videos from inside the room surfaced online, despite the police having seized the accused’s mobile phones. Investigators earlier found tantric symbols, satanic drawings, and mysterious writings in Shukla’s room, pointing towards a possible link to black magic. However, the room remained unsecured after Shukla’s arrest.

A senior officer stated, “We are examining whether this was negligence or deliberate misconduct. Given the seriousness of the crime, safeguarding all potential evidence is vital.”

Both Sahil Shukla and Muskan Rastogi are currently in judicial custody. Rastogi has requested state-provided legal aid after her family withdrew support. Jail SSP Dr. Viresh Raj Sharma confirmed, “Muskan approached us, seeking legal assistance as her family has distanced itself. She is entitled to a lawyer if unrepresented.”

On the other hand, Shukla has refused government legal help, expressing hope that his parents will fund his defense.

According to jail officials, both accused are suffering from severe drug withdrawal. Rastogi has been asking for injections, while Shukla is increasingly restless due to his craving for marijuana. Both are being kept separately and are undergoing de-addiction treatment.

Meanwhile, the drug department raided Usha Medical Store in Khair Nagar. Drug Inspector Piyush Sharma said, “We are scrutinizing the store’s records. Any irregularities in the sale of medicines will lead to an FIR or cancellation of their license.”

Investigations revealed that Rastogi and Shukla reconnected in 2019 and became addicted to drugs together. Saurabh Rajput was allegedly killed on March 4 in his rented Brahmpuri flat, days after returning from London for his wife’s birthday.

His severed head and body were stuffed into a cement-filled drum and left hidden for nearly two weeks. Shockingly, after committing the crime, the accused reportedly vacationed in Himachal Pradesh for 12 days.

Meerut SSP Dr. Vipin Tada was unavailable for comment on the investigation into the failure to secure the crime scene. Authorities are likely to take action against those responsible for this procedural lapse.
