Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman asserted the urgent need for a comprehensive peace process aimed at establishing a Palestinian state within the borders decided in 1967 during a virtual summit of the BRICS group. The prince’s strong stance came in the aftermath of recent escalations between Hamas and Israel, culminating in the bombardment of Gaza by Tel Aviv.
“The Kingdom’s position remains steadfast: true security and stability in Palestine can only be achieved by implementing international decisions related to the two-state solution,” emphasized the prince, marking Saudi Arabia’s unyielding commitment to a lasting resolution.
Echoing similar sentiments, Chinese President Xi Jinping emphasized the imperative of a ceasefire to secure lasting peace and stability in the region. Addressing the BRICS summit, Jinping advocated for the two-state solution as the fundamental approach to resolving the recurring Palestine-Israel conflicts. He underscored the necessity of reinstating the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people and establishing an independent State of Palestine.
Saudi Arabia had previously held the ‘Israeli occupation’ accountable for the ‘crimes’ perpetrated against Palestinians, reiterating calls for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza. The crown prince unequivocally rejected ongoing Israeli aggression in Gaza and the forced displacement of residents.
Highlighting what he deemed as ‘double standards’ in the application of international humanitarian law, the prince criticized the international community’s silence concerning violations against Palestinian civilians. “We face a humanitarian catastrophe that exposes the failure of the UN Security Council and the international community to halt Israeli violations—a clear demonstration of double standards,” he remarked.
In response to the dire situation, the prince called for collective action among Arab and Islamic nations to address the crisis. He emphasized the urgent need to lift the siege on Gaza and facilitate the delivery of humanitarian aid.
“The Kingdom has been tirelessly engaged since the onset of the aggression in Gaza, consistently pursuing consultations to halt the conflict,” stated the prince. He reinforced the imperative of establishing a Palestinian state along the 1967 borders, designating East Jerusalem as its capital.
The statements made by the Saudi Crown Prince and the Chinese President at the BRICS summit highlight the growing international concern over the escalating tensions in the region. Their calls for a two-state solution and immediate cessation of hostilities underscore a collective plea for peace, stability, and justice in the longstanding Israel-Palestine conflict.
