Mumbai Police arrested Vijay Das, the main accused in the Saif Ali Khan stabbing case, from Maharashtra’s Thane West in the early hours of Sunday. The arrest was made during a joint operation led by DCP Zone-6 Navnath Dhavale’s team and the Kasarvadavali police at a labour camp near a metro construction site behind the TCS Call Centre in Hiranandani Estate, Thane West.

Actor Saif Ali Khan sustained six stab wounds while struggling with the intruder, who broke into his Bandra apartment early Thursday with the intent to rob. After the attacker fled the scene, Saif’s son, Ibrahim Ali Khan, rushed him to Lilavati Hospital in Mumbai, where he underwent multiple surgeries. The actor is now recovering and reported to be out of danger.

The prime suspect, Vijay Das, who previously worked at a pub in Mumbai, was arrested and will be presented in court on Sunday for remand, according to the Mumbai crime branch. Police revealed that the accused used multiple aliases, including Vijay Das, Bijoy Das, and Mohammad Iliyas, as per ANI reports.

CCTV footage from the Satguru Sharan building, where Saif Ali Khan and his family reside, captured the attacker using the staircase to reach Saif’s 12th-floor apartment. DCP Zone-9 Dikshit Gedam confirmed this detail. During the incident, the actor’s staff member, Eliyamma Philips, also known as Lima, was present and was the first to encounter the intruder. She engaged in a scuffle to stop him, sustaining injuries to her hand. Her screams alerted Saif Ali Khan, who confronted the attacker and was stabbed six times with a sharp knife during the struggle. The intruder then fled the scene.

Lima described the attacker to the police as a slim, dark-complexioned man in his late thirties, approximately 5 feet, 5 inches tall. Hours after the attack, the accused was spotted on CCTV buying headphones at a Dadar store around 9 a.m. on Thursday, wearing a blue shirt. He was also seen earlier at Bandra railway station, where he likely boarded a train.

In her statement, actress Kareena Kapoor Khan, Saif’s wife, told the police that the intruder became “very aggressive” during his altercation with Saif and stabbed him multiple times. Despite his violent behaviour, the attacker did not touch any jewellery left in plain sight.
