Mumbai: Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan sustained stab injuries after an unidentified individual broke into his 11th-floor Bandra (West) apartment early Thursday, allegedly intending to commit burglary. According to Bandra police, the intruder fled after attacking Khan during a confrontation that ensued when the actor woke up to noises and confronted him.
The 54-year-old actor is currently undergoing surgery for six stab wounds, one of which is near the spine. Doctors at Lilavati Hospital in Bandra Reclamation are treating him, with neurosurgeon Dr. Nitin Dange leading the operation. Two of the wounds are particularly severe, including one close to the spinal cord containing a foreign object and another on his left wrist, which will require plastic surgery.
Khan was rushed to the hospital around 3 a.m. by his elder son Ibrahim and a caretaker. “He sustained six incised wounds caused by a sharp object,” stated Dr. Niraj Uttamani, COO of Lilavati Hospital.
DCP (Zone X) Dikshit Gedam confirmed the incident, stating, “An unidentified person entered the residence of actor Saif Ali Khan. A scuffle broke out, resulting in the actor sustaining injuries. The matter is under investigation.”
The incident occurred between 2 a.m. and 2:30 a.m., while other family members were also present in the flat. Upon hearing the commotion, they immediately rushed to Khan and transported him to the hospital.
Police and the Mumbai crime branch are investigating how the intruder bypassed the building’s security, considering the possibility of the individual scaling the building to gain access. CCTV footage from the building is currently being reviewed to identify the suspect.
