External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar expressed on Tuesday that India is “very much” concerned about the potential for a regional war in West Asia, emphasizing that any country’s response must adhere to international humanitarian law, according to ANI.

Speaking at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace in the U.S., Jaishankar reiterated India’s stance that the October 7 attack by Hamas on Israel was a “terrorist attack,” which has triggered the current tensions. While acknowledging Israel’s need to respond, he stressed that any action should consider humanitarian law and avoid harm to civilian populations, calling for a global humanitarian effort in Gaza.

Jaishankar also highlighted India’s broader concern for conflicts across West Asia, not just the current tensions involving Israel, Hamas, Hezbollah, and Iran. He pointed out the importance of addressing other conflicts, such as those involving the Houthis in the Red Sea and issues between Iran and Israel, stressing that many countries share these concerns.
