Russia Seeks Return of Helicopter Engines from Pakistan Amid War-Induced Arms Shortage

As Russia faces a prolonged conflict in Ukraine with a reported shortage of arms and ammunition, it has reportedly approached Pakistan to return helicopter engines, according to recent reports. The appeal for the return of military assets suggests Russia’s growing desperation amid the extended duration of the war.
In an unexpected turn of events, Russia is now resorting to importing arms, including missiles, even from North Korea. According to a South Korean lawmaker, North Korea has supplied over 1 million artillery shells to Russia since August. Furthermore, around 2,000 containers of military equipment have been sent since September, potentially including short-range ballistic missiles and portable anti-aircraft missiles.
The global arms market is experiencing significant fluctuations due to the increased demand caused by Russia’s involvement in the conflict. Notably, the price of 155 mm shells, commonly used by NATO forces, has surged to approximately $3,000 per shell.
This development underscores the impact of the conflict on Russia’s military capabilities and its efforts to source weaponry from unconventional suppliers, highlighting the challenging situation the country faces in sustaining its military operations.
