In a surprising turn of events, fashion maestro Tarun Tahiliani has voiced his disappointment over the unauthorized utilization of his exquisite designs in the second season of the popular Prime Video web series ‘Made in Heaven.’ The acclaimed designer took to Instagram Stories to highlight the uncredited appearance of his creations in the show’s episodes, raising concerns about the lack of acknowledgment for his artistic contributions.
The controversy comes on the heels of journalist and author Yashica Dutt’s recent disappointment with the show’s creators for not acknowledging her contributions. Now, Tarun Tahiliani has joined the ranks of discontented voices, shedding light on a glaring issue within the entertainment industry.
The source of the outrage stems from actor Mrunal Thakur, who donned Tahiliani’s garments as part of her bridal attire in the second episode of the show’s new season. The outfits were presented to her by a fictional character, Akshay Jaiswal, portrayed by Kashyap Harsha Shangari, who played the role of a fictitious designer within the show’s narrative.
Tarun Tahiliani shared images of Mrunal Thakur donning his designs on his Instagram Stories, expressing his dismay over what he termed a “shocking breach of faith.” He lamented that significant portions of the episode showcased his creations under a fictional label, raising questions about the ethics of uncredited use of artists’ work.
The veteran designer underscored the importance of recognition and respect for the artists’ efforts, emphasizing that such actions should not be deemed acceptable in the industry. He suggested that production houses involve professional costume designers if they intend to portray specific designs, ensuring that creators are properly acknowledged for their contributions.
Tahiliani’s disappointment echoes the growing sentiment among artists and creators in the industry, urging ethical practices and proper accreditation in the portrayal of their work in various media. As the debate gains momentum, it remains to be seen whether these concerns will prompt changes in the way creative contributions are acknowledged and presented in popular shows and productions.
