New Delhi: Delhi’s Chief Minister-designate and BJP leader Rekha Gupta on Thursday embarked on a journey to Ramlila Maidan for her swearing-in ceremony, marking the beginning of a new chapter in the national capital’s political landscape.

But before she made headlines, Gupta created a stir with a bold decision: she announced that she would no longer live in the controversial 6 Flagstaff Road bungalow, also known as ‘Sheeshmahal’, the official residence of the chief minister. This comes amid an ongoing investigation by the Central Vigilance Commission (CVC) into alleged irregularities in the property following a complaint by BJP leader Vijender Gupta.

“It is a miracle, a new inspiration and a new chapter,” Gupta told ANI, brimming with confidence. “If I can become CM, it means the doors are open for all women. And let me be clear – whoever has been corrupt will have to account for every single rupee.”

Gupta’s day began with a spiritual touch, when he offered prayers at the Hanuman temple near Kashmiri Gate and sought blessings for his new role. He then led a vibrant public rally, in which he flashed the iconic ‘Vijay sign’ to his supporters. The scenes were nothing short of spectacular – hundreds of enthusiastic supporters showered flowers and paintings on him, and celebrated his reaching the top.

Rekha Gupta is set to become the fourth woman chief minister of Delhi, following in the footsteps of BJP, Congress and Aam Aadmi Party leaders. She will replace AAP’s Atishi as the BJP registered a landslide victory in the recently held assembly elections by winning 48 out of 70 seats. The AAP managed only 22 seats while the Congress failed to open its account for the third time in a row.

Six other MLAs will also take oath at the swearing-in ceremony, including Parvesh Sahib Singh as Deputy Chief Minister, Ashish Sood, Manjinder Singh Sirsa, Ravinder Inderraj Singh, Kapil Mishra and Pankaj Kumar Singh. Sources say former Leader of Opposition Vijender Gupta is likely to be appointed Speaker of the Delhi Assembly and Mohan Singh Bisht as Deputy Speaker.

Rekha Gupta is set to take over the reins of Delhi, but her anti-corruption stance and refusal to occupy the controversial CM residence have set the tone for her tenure. Will she live up to the expectations of her supporters and deliver a corruption-free administration? Only time will tell, but one thing is for sure – change is about to begin in Delhi!
