Dublin, 19 August, India’s prominent spinner, Ravichandran Ashwin, didn’t hold back his opinion when discussing the ongoing three-match T20I series between India and Ireland. The series commenced on Friday in Dublin, with Jasprit Bumrah leading the Indian side to a narrow victory through the DLS method after rain interfered and eventually led to the match being abandoned.

Doubts Cast on Ireland’s Fight:

Referring to the two-match T20I contest held between India and Ireland in 2022, Ashwin expressed skepticism about Ireland’s ability to put up a competitive fight against the Indian team this time around. In a candid statement, Ashwin shared, “Last time India toured Ireland for T20s, the home side were more than competitive, but this time I really doubt there would be a fight.”

Ashwin’s Observations:

During the 2022 series, India faced a spirited contest from the Irish team, which managed to remain highly competitive. However, Ashwin believes that this time, India’s formidable bowling attack, featuring talents like Arshdeep, Bumrah, and Prasidh, might pose a challenge that Ireland could find difficult to overcome.

Rain Spoils the Opener:

In the first match of the series, India was chasing a target of 140 runs set by Ireland when rain intervened, causing the match to be called off. At the time of interruption, India had scored 47 for 2 in 6.5 overs.

Young’s Impact and India’s Bowling Prowess:

Craig Young of Ireland played a crucial role in bringing Ireland back into contention by dismissing Yashasvi Jaiswal and Tilak Varma on consecutive deliveries. Despite the efforts of Jaiswal and Ruturaj Gaikwad in providing India with a solid start, Ireland managed to regain momentum.

Bishnoi and Bumrah Shine:

In the bowling department, Ravi Bishnoi and Jasprit Bumrah exhibited their prowess by claiming two wickets each, restricting Ireland to a total of 139 for 7 in 20 overs. Barry McCarthy’s remarkable 51 not out off 33 balls bolstered Ireland’s innings. The game saw Bumrah, captaining the Indian side, opt to bowl first after winning the toss.

The outcome of the ongoing series will likely remain a focal point of discussion, as fans eagerly anticipate whether Ireland can rise to the challenge posed by the formidable Indian team.
