Newa India Official: A prisoner from Rajasthan’s Salaswas Jail in Dausa allegedly issued a death threat against Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma on Friday night, police reported. According to news agency PTI, 29-year-old Rinku, serving a life sentence for rape, called the Jaipur police control room and threatened to kill the chief minister. Authorities traced the call to Salaswas Jail, prompting an extensive search operation from 3 AM to 7 AM. After four hours, police recovered the mobile phone used to make the call. While the motive behind the threat remains unclear, investigations are ongoing.
This is not the first such incident. In July 2024, another prisoner from Dausa Central Jail also threatened CM Sharma. Similarly, in January 2024, a POCSO convict from Jaipur Central Jail called the Jaipur police control room, threatening to shoot the chief minister.
In a separate case, Mumbai police on Thursday received emails threatening to blow up Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde’s car. The emails were sent to two police stations—Goregaon and JJ Marg. Following a technical investigation, the crime branch arrested two suspects from Deulgaon Mahi village on Friday for allegedly sending the threats.
Threats against politicians have been reported before. In November 2023, Mumbai traffic police received a WhatsApp message threatening Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. The message demanded his resignation within ten days and warned that he would be “killed like Baba Siddique,” referring to the murder of the former minister and NCP (Ajit Pawar) leader.
