A 23-year-old woman named Anuradha Paswan has been arrested by Rajasthan Police in Bhopal for allegedly deceiving 25 men through a series of fraudulent marriages, officials confirmed on Tuesday.
Originally from Maharajganj in Uttar Pradesh, Anuradha had been residing in Bhopal after allegedly conning Vishnu Sharma, a cart-puller from Sawai Madhopur, Rajasthan. Sharma, who wished to marry, was introduced to Anuradha through Pappu Meena, who arranged the match and received ₹2 lakh from Sharma — an amount he had partly borrowed. The two got married on April 19 at a local court and began living together.
Sharma recounted that the gang typically whisked Anuradha away within a week of marriage. However, due to his late working hours and the family staying up until midnight, she remained with them for 13 days. On May 2, Anuradha allegedly drugged the family by possibly spiking the water served with dinner. Everyone, including Sharma and his family, fell asleep. The next morning, they found that she had disappeared with jewelry, cash, and a mobile phone.
An FIR was registered on May 3, and investigators traced the address on the marriage certificate, which turned out to be fake. Police stayed in Bhopal to track her down. They spoke to locals and marriage facilitators under the guise of looking for a bride for a constable in their team. After four days, someone provided a photograph that matched Anuradha’s image in the marriage records.
She was eventually located in Kalapipal near Bhopal, living with another man named Gabbar, whom she had married just days earlier and whom she was allegedly preparing to defraud. During interrogation, Anuradha and her accomplices admitted she had been married around 25 times. She was arrested on Sunday and presented in court, while investigations into her network are still ongoing, said ASI Meetha Lal Yadav.
