Heavy rainfall in Mumbai-Pune on Thursday caused waterlogging and affected transport, 3 dead, schools closed and, yellow, and orange alerts were issued

Mumbai is full of water again. There is a sea-like situation on the roads in the morning. The roads of Chembur appear to have turned into drains. Vihar Lake, one of the seven lakes of Mumbai, has overflowed. Mithi river is in spate. The condition of Pune is worse. Water has entered many societies. Holidays have been declared in schools. This rain is also proving fatal as 3 people have died due to electrocution in Pune. In July, rains are becoming a disaster in Maharashtra. In Mumbai, the month of July is ending with a new record of rain.

Shilphata Road in the Dombivali Kalyan area is flooded. Due to this, it became difficult for people to pass through here and vehicles also got stuck. Whereas in Pune, due to heavy rains, housing societies on the river banks have been flooded. Fire department personnel are busy taking people out. In some places, the condition is so bad that the water has reached waist level. Ekta Nagar of Pune is filled with water. Baba Bhide bridge in Pune has been submerged in water, hence citizens have been warned to remain alert. Due to heavy rains in Maharashtra, schools have been closed in many places.

Water entered the society, and 3 died due to electric shock

Singh Garh Road is also filled with water above the knees. An alert has been issued by the administration. Rainwater has entered about 15 housing societies in Pune. Three people died due to electric shock. More than 100 mm of rain was recorded at four different places in Pune city. The administration has issued holidays to schools in Pune Pimpri Chinchwad city. According to the Meteorological Department, there will be heavy rain in Mumbai, Thane, Palghar, and Raigarh on Thursday.

Many areas of Maharashtra cities submerged

Earlier on Monday, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) had advised people not to come out of their homes unless necessary, with the forecast of extremely heavy rain in various places in the districts of Nagpur and Vidarbha region. Due to recent rains, low-lying areas of many cities including Mumbai and Nagpur in Maharashtra were submerged and life was affected there. During this time people had to be taken to safe places.

More than 200 mm of rain was recorded at many places in Mumbai in the last 24 hours till 8 am on Monday, due to which local train services were disrupted for some time. Officials said that amid the forecast of heavy rains and high waves in Mumbai and its suburbs, three teams of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) have been deployed in the city to deal with any situation.

Western Railways said that local train services operated normally on Monday morning. Central Railway also said that local train services are normal on all four corridors. A BMC official said that the routes of Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) buses have not been changed. A day earlier, heavy rains in Mumbai and suburbs left roads submerged in many areas, flights had to be diverted and local train services between Dadar and Matunga stations were briefly affected.

Heavy rain alert in Pune also

Heavy to moderate rain continued in Pune and its surrounding areas for the second consecutive day on Wednesday. Due to rain, the water level of the dam also increased, due to which water was released from Khadakwasla dam for the first time this season. Lavasa received a maximum rainfall of 106 mm till 5.30 pm on Wednesday. 95 mm of rainfall was recorded in Lonavala. Since the beginning of the monsoon season, the Pune district has received 567.2 mm rainfall, whereas the normal rainfall is 420.1 mm. Presently monsoon is passing through Bikaner, Sikar, Gwalior, Ranchi, and Digha. Due to this, there has been heavy rain in the entire state. In its forecast, IMD had issued an orange alert predicting heavy to very heavy rain for Pune and its surrounding areas. This alert has also been issued for Thursday.
