LOK SABHA ELECTION: On Wednesday, the head of the Congress, Rahul Gandhi, referred to Prime Minister Narendra Modi as a “champion of corruption.”  Gandhi was alluding to PM Modi’s recent advocacy of the now-scrapped Electoral Bond scheme, which has since been abandoned. The 2018 electoral bond scheme was deemed to be “violative” of the fundamental rights to information and freedom of speech and expression.

Rahul Gandhi, the Congress leader, still maintains the mystery around his potential candidature for the prominent Amethi seat in Uttar Pradesh. Rahul Gandhi held a combined Ghaziabad press conference with Akhilesh Yadav, the leader of the Samajwadi Party. In the press conference on Wednesday, Gandhi stated that the party’s Central Election Committee (CEC) would make the final decision and that he would respect that decision.

Also, a song from the India bloc was released on this occasion in Uttar Pradesh.

“Whatever the CEC and Congress president will ask me to do, I will do it. Such decisions are made at our CEC,” stated the Congress leader in a joint press conference with the chief of the Samajwadi Party, Akhilesh Yadav.

There has been much conjecture that Rahul Gandhi, the Congress’s renominated candidate from Wayanad in Kerala, may run again from Amethi. Since 2004, Rahul Gandhi has emerged victorious in the Amethi seat three times in a row. However, BJP leader Smriti Irani earned the nickname “giant slayer” after defeating her opponent by 55,000 votes.

Continuing in this press conference, the Congress leader also exclaimed that the India bloc was strongly supported and the BJP would only be able to secure 150 seats.

The Congress PM says, “I do not do seat predictions. 15-20 days ago, I was thinking the BJP would win around 180 seats, but now I think they will get 150 seats.” And the India bloc is getting good reports.

Rahul Gandhi addressed the now-scrapped electoral bond scheme. Claiming it as the world’s most profound “extortion scheme,”.

The 17th April is the last day of campaigning for the April 19 first-phase poll. In the first phase, polling takes place on Friday in 102 Lok Sabha seats located across 17 states and 4 Union Territories.

On April 17, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will hold rallies in Assam and Tripura as part of the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) election campaign. The PM will speak at a mass gathering in Assamese Nalbari. He will speak at a second public gathering in Agartala, Tripura, later. Also on April 16, PM Narendra Modi addressed public meetings in two places in Bihar, also in West Bengal.

Along with other prominent BJP leaders, Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh will speak at three rallies in Kerala today at Kannur, Kasargod, and Vadakara. Union Minister Nitin Gadkari will also address the public virtually in Nagpur. Kerala’s 20 Lok Sabha seats will be up for election in the first phase.
