Addressing a press conference yesterday from AICC (All India Congress Committee) headquarters, Rahul Gandhi launched an attack on the Election Commission, accusing it of being colluding with the BJP and stealing votes in Karnataka’s Mahadevpura constituency of Bangalore Central Lok Sabha seat. He said that, “BJP won the Bangalore Central seat with a margin of 1,14,046 votes despite Congress winning all the Vidhan Sabha seats except Mahadevpura, which saturated our series of suspicions.”

Earlier, at the start of the briefing, Rahul Gandhi stated that the following series of electoral events led to the investigation in the Mahadevpura Vidhan Sabha constituency by the Congress party:

  1. No anti-incumbency in BJP-ruled states.
  2. BJP sweeping the Maharashtra Vidhan Sabha elections just 5 months after losing one-sidedly to the Maha Vikas Aghadi alliance in the General Assembly election.
  3. Addition of 70 lakh voters in Maharashtra electoral rolls between General Election and State Assembly election.
  4. Defeat by BJP in Haryana State Election by just around 22,000 votes.

Rahul Gandhi added, “As we knew all along that something is wrong, yet we couldn’t say it with conviction as we didn’t have any proof, so we decided to carry out our own investigation.”

Rahul criticised the Election Commission for not providing digital electoral rolls and destroying CCTV footage 45 days after the election, as confirmed by the Election Commission earlier. He termed this as a criminal offence and as an act of destroying evidence.

He further added, “After being repeatedly asked for digital electoral rolls of Mahadevpura constituency, the Election Commission provided us with electoral rolls on a paper which was non-scannable by any digital means, which further increased our suspicions. So we decided to cross-verify details of every single voter, which included name, address, photo and other significant details, which took us 6 months as we had to manually cross-verify every single detail of every single voter on the list seven lakh times with every other entry on the list.”

He claimed the Congress party’s investigation revealed the theft of 1,00,250 votes out of 6.5 lakh total votes. He alleged that perpetrators stole these 1,00,250 votes through five distinct methods:

  1. Duplicate voters (11,965)
  2. Fake and invalid address (40,009)
  3. Bulk voters in a single address (10,452)
  4. Invalid photos (4,132)
  5. Misuse of Form 6 (33,692)

While presenting the details, he stated that the Election Commission of India and BJP are meticulously stealing the country’s most precious currency. He condemned this act as the criminal offense of ‘VOTE CHORI.’

Citing their investigation of Mahadevpura constituency, Rahul Gandhi raised questions on the legitimacy of the election process across the nation and raised concerns that if it could happen in one constituency, then it can happen across the country. He even stated that limited resources constrained the Congress party to conducting this investigation in just one Vidhan Sabha constituency.

He yet again appealed for digital electoral rolls of past several elections and clarification on the issue and even dared the Election Commission to prove that the information displayed by him is wrong.
