Punjab Police claimed on Wednesday to have prevented planned targeted killings within the state with the arrest of three individuals connected to a terror module based in Pakistan that is under the control of the ISI. Three 0.30 and five 0.32 calibre handguns, nine magazines, and thirty live rounds were found in their possession, according to the Director General of Police, Gaurav Yadav.
The people who were taken into custody are Jagjit Singh of Dhilwa Kalan in Kotkapura, Rajbhupinder Singh alias Bhinda of the Dikh village in Bathinda, and Raman Kumar of the village Guru Harsahai in Fazilka.
Yadav claimed that police teams from Bathinda’s Counter Intelligence unit set up a checkpoint close to the bridge in the village of Gobindpura and detained the three people after receiving credible information.
He said that preliminary investigations revealed that the three people who were arrested had communication with some of the people who are presently being held at Sangrur Jail under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.
The arrested accused brought firearms from Madhya Pradesh, according to the Assistant Inspector General of Counter Intelligence, Avneet Kaur Sidhu, and they were ordered to carry out targeted killings in the state to incite fear.
She stated that further weapon recovery is anticipated, and the investigation is ongoing to determine forward and backward linkages. Under pertinent sections of the Arms Act and the Indian Penal Code (IPC), a case has been filed in Bathinda.
