A 19-year-old woman in Maharashtra’s Pune district was allegedly raped and robbed at knifepoint while she was with her cousin, police reported on Monday. According to news agency PTI, the two accused forced the woman and her cousin to engage in an obscene act, recording it before sexually assaulting her.
The incident reportedly took place on Saturday in Pune’s Shirur tehsil area when the two cousins were sitting together in a secluded spot. Two men in their late twenties approached them on a motorbike, threatened them with a knife, and coerced them into intimate acts while filming. They then allegedly took turns raping the woman and robbing her of gold jewelry, including a nose ring and a pendant, before fleeing, police stated.
Still in shock, the woman managed to call 112 and report the crime. Senior Police Inspector Mahadev Waghmode of Ranjangaon police station confirmed that officers responded immediately, gathered descriptions of the accused, and launched a manhunt. With the help of human intelligence, both suspects were arrested within hours.
The stolen jewelry has been recovered, and the accused have been remanded to police custody until March 7, Waghmode told PTI. This disturbing incident comes shortly after the alleged rape of a woman inside an MSRTC Shivshahi bus parked at Pune’s Swargate depot on February 25. The accused in that case was apprehended on February 27 and remains in police custody until March 12.
