News India Official: Dattatraya Ramdas Gade, a history-sheeter out on bail since 2019, allegedly raped a 26-year-old woman inside a stationary state transport bus at Pune’s busy Swargate bus station on Tuesday morning. The shocking incident led to a protest by the opposition Shiv Sena (UBT), during which the security office on the premises was vandalised.

Nationalist Congress Party (SP) leader and Baramati MP Supriya Sule criticised the BJP-led Mahayuti government, while Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar directed the Pune Police Commissioner to investigate the case and ensure the swift arrest of the accused.

Dattatraya Ramdas Gade, 36, has a criminal record with multiple cases of theft, robbery, and chain-snatching registered against him in Pune and the neighbouring Ahilyanagar district, according to a Swargate police official quoted by PTI.

The police confirmed that Gade had been out on bail since 2019 in one of the offenses. In 2024, a theft case was also registered against him in Pune, and he was summoned for questioning.

On Wednesday, a Pune police team questioned the accused’s brother, while authorities examined CCTV footage from Swargate bus station and surrounding areas. Police are also using technical assistance to gather clues and track down Gade.
