Pune Accident: Intoxicated Truck Driver Fatally Runs Over Three, Including Two Children, Sleeping on the Footpath
Pune accident: According to police, the victims included two children, aged 1 and 2, and a 22-year-old man.
Pune Accident: In the early hours of Monday, a speeding dumper truck swerved off the road onto a footpath near Kesnand Phata in Wagholi, crushing nine people who were sleeping there. The incident resulted in the deaths of three individuals, including two children, and left six others injured, officials reported.
The driver, identified as 26-year-old Gajanan Shankar Totre, was reportedly under the influence of alcohol at the time. He has been arrested by Pune police and charged with culpable homicide. Eyewitnesses and police confirmed that the accident occurred around 1 a.m. when the truck veered off the road, striking a group of 12 people, nine of whom were severely impacted while others sustained minor injuries.
The injured were rushed to Sassoon Hospital, where three remain in critical condition. The deceased have been identified as Vishal Vinod Pawar (22), Vaibhavi Ritesh Pawar (1), and Vaibhav Ritesh Pawar (2). The injured include Janaki Dinesh Pawar (21), Rinisha Vinod Pawar (18), Roshan Shashadu Bhosale (9), Nagesh Nivrutti Pawar (27), Darshan Sanjay Vairal (18), and Alisha Vinod Pawar (47).
Senior police inspector Pandit Rejitwad stated that an investigation has been launched into the incident. “A case has been registered against the driver. Three people have lost their lives, six are injured, and three remain critical at Sassoon Hospital,” he added.
