Prime Minister Rishi Sunak Says the UK Will Not Accept Chinese Interference

In a resolute stance against external meddling, UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has firmly declared that the United Kingdom will not tolerate any form of Chinese interference in its democratic processes.
During the recent G20 summit held in India, Prime Minister Rishi Sunak conveyed a stern message to Chinese Premier Li Qiang, emphasizing that any attempts at spying or interference would “never be tolerated.” This assertion came amid growing concerns over allegations of espionage, leading to the arrest of two individuals under the Official Secrets Act.

It’s worth noting that MPs in the House of Commons have a special privilege known as Parliamentary Privilege, which grants them certain legal immunities and protections for statements made in Parliament. It emphasizes the importance of not using Parliament to name the individual in question.
Mr. Rishi Sunak expresses firm concern regarding China’s interference in the UK’s democracy. He states that the UK will not tolerate any such interference and will defend its democracy and security. Foreign Secretary James Cleverly raised the issue of China’s attempts to interfere with UK democracy during his recent visit to China.
The UK government is addressing the issue through diplomatic channels.
