In a touching display of solidarity and support, Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended his personal encouragement to the Indian cricket team following their defeat in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 final against Australia. Despite the crushing loss, PM Modi visited the team’s dressing room to offer words of solace and encouragement, particularly sharing a poignant moment with Mohammed Shami, the standout performer as the tournament’s leading wicket-taker.

Expressing his gratitude to the nation and acknowledging the Prime Minister’s support, Shami took to social media to share the heartfelt encounter, sharing a captured moment of PM Modi offering support and encouragement. He tweeted, “Unfortunately yesterday was not our day. I would like to thank all Indians for supporting our team and me throughout the tournament. Thankful to PM @narendramodi for specially coming to the dressing room and raising our spirits. We will bounce back!”

PM Modi reciprocated the sentiment, praising the team’s remarkable performance throughout the tournament and offering unwavering support. He took to social media, tweeting, “Dear Team India, Your talent and determination through the World Cup was noteworthy. You’ve played with great spirit and brought immense pride to the nation. We stand with you today and always.”

India’s campaign in the World Cup ended in disappointment as their unbeaten streak was halted by a formidable Australian side. Despite posting a competitive total of 240 runs in the first innings, led by KL Rahul’s resilient 66 and Virat Kohli’s contribution of 54, the Indian team faced a formidable challenge.

In pursuit of victory, Australia’s Travis Head’s exceptional innings of 137 runs, supported by Marnus Labuschagne’s resilient 57 runs off 109 balls, ensured Australia’s sixth World Cup triumph, leaving India short by six wickets.

Despite the loss, the uplifting gesture from Prime Minister Modi to personally engage with and support the team during a moment of defeat resonated deeply, showcasing solidarity and admiration for the team’s efforts, determination, and the pride they brought to the nation throughout the tournament.
