On Thursday, President Droupadi Murmu spoke to a joint session of Parliament. During her speech, the President gave the country assurances that significant social and economic decisions, as well as historic firsts, would be revealed during the Union Budget in the next Parliamentary sessions.

In her first speech to the joint session of Parliament following the formation of the 18th Lok Sabha, President Murmu congratulated the new members of Parliament and expressed her hope that they would serve as a conduit for realising the dreams of the Indian people.

Om Birla, a Kota-born MP and candidate for the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), was chosen to serve as the 18th Lok Sabha’s speaker following a motion that was proposed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and backed by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh. The house voted in favour of the measure by voice.

Following the general elections, the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) won 293 seats, while the INDIA group won 234 seats, making the first Lok Sabha session. However, with only 240 seats won, the BJP was unable to clinch a majority on its own.
