In a lighthearted ceremony at the White House, President Joe Biden celebrated his 81st birthday with a touch of humor, playfully jesting about his age while pardoning Thanksgiving turkeys. Despite being the oldest sitting president in U.S. history, Biden embraced the occasion with quips and jests, eliciting laughter from attendees.
During the customary event to spare turkeys from the holiday dinner table, Biden, whose age has sparked public interest, humorously remarked, “I just want you to know it’s difficult turning 60.” Amusingly, he noted that if reelected for a second term next year, he would be 82, and upon leaving office, he would reach the age of 86. Adding a dash of historical perspective, Biden humorously mentioned, “This is the 76th anniversary of this event, and I want you to know I wasn’t there for the first one.”
Amid the light-hearted atmosphere, as President Biden pardoned Liberty the turkey on the South Lawn, a playful moment arose when he seemingly mixed up popular singers Taylor Swift and Britney Spears. He commented that Liberty and Bell “had to beat tough odds,” likening it to scoring tickets to Beyonce’s Renaissance tour “or Britney’s tour… it’s kinda warm in Brazil right now.” However, the reference aligned more with Swift’s recent concert postponement in Rio de Janeiro due to extreme heat, following a tragic incident at her previous show.
Looking ahead to the Thanksgiving holiday, President Biden, accompanied by First Lady Jill Biden and members of the presidential family, is scheduled to spend time on the exclusive island of Nantucket.
Biden’s jovial presence during the turkey pardon ceremony added a light-hearted touch to the proceedings, showcasing his humor and wit, even on significant occasions like his birthday.
