In a bid to boost tourism, the British-era Mayo Hall Sports Complex in Prayagraj has been adorned with stunning facade lighting. This development comes after the city witnessed a whopping 66 crore visitor footfall during the recently concluded Mahakumbh 2025.
The facade lighting project, worth ₹1.95 crore, was planned for the financial year 2024-25 but was delayed due to the massive workload and crowd pressure during the Mahakumbh festivities. The tourism department installed the facade lights under the Mahakumbh scheme, and maintenance has been handed over to the UP Project Corporation.
Upcoming Illuminations
Several other historic sites in Prayagraj are slated to get similar facade lighting treatments before the 2031 Kumbh Mela. These include:
- Victoria Memorial: An iconic landmark that will shine brighter with the new lighting system
- Allahabad Museum: A hub for history and culture, now set to become a visual spectacle
- Minto Park: A popular recreational spot that will get a fresh new look
- Chowk Clock Tower: A prominent landmark that will be illuminated to attract tourists
The facade lighting initiative aims to showcase Prayagraj’s rich cultural heritage and attract more visitors to the city. With its historic buildings and monuments now illuminated, Prayagraj is set to become an even more popular tourist destination. The city’s recent facelift is expected to pay dividends in the years to come, especially with the 2031 Kumbh Mela around the corner.
