Meerut: A local court in Bulandshahr has found a Ghaziabad-based constable, who was deployed at GRP Pratapgarh for Kumbh duty, guilty of raping his sister-in-law in 2022 and has issued a non-bailable warrant (NBW) for his arrest. Additional District and Sessions Judge Varun Mohit Nigam directed the police to apprehend and produce him in court today.
According to Additional District Government Counsel (ADGC) Vijay Sharma, the survivor, a resident of a village in Bulandshahr, filed a complaint on June 26, 2022, alleging that her brother-in-law, the constable, raped her after locking her children in a room. The police registered a case under IPC Section 376 (rape) and later submitted a chargesheet based on forensic evidence and witness statements.
“On Thursday, the accused failed to appear in court, leading to his counsel submitting a letter of apology, which the court rejected. After reviewing witness testimonies and evidence, the court found him guilty and issued an NBW for his arrest. The police have been directed to apprehend and produce him in court on Monday. The sentencing verdict is scheduled for February 20,” Sharma stated.
