PM Modi will address a rally today in Srinagar, his first visit to the city since Article 370 was repealed, and will unveil several development projects.

On Thursday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address a public meeting in Srinagar and unveil numerous development projects totaling more than Rs 6,400 crore.

In his first visit to Kashmir since Article 370 was repealed, the Prime Minister will also attend the ‘Viksit Bharat Viksit Jammu Kashmir’ program at the Srinagar stadium.

According to an official announcement, PM Narendra Modi will unveil nationwide tourist initiatives worth over Rs 1,400 crore under the ‘Swadesh Darshan’ and ‘PRASHAD’ (Pilgrimage Rejuvenation And Spiritual, Heritage Augmentation Drive) schemes, including a project for the integrated development of the Hazratbal shrine in Srinagar.

He will also launch the ‘Dekho Apna Desh People’s Choice Tourist Destination Poll’ and the ‘Chalo India Global Diaspora’ campaigns, in addition to unveiling tourist locations selected under the Challenge-Based Destination Development (CBDD) initiative.

PM Modi will present appointment letters to over 1,000 freshly hired government employees in Jammu and Kashmir, as well as meet with beneficiaries of several central projects such as women achievers, farmers, and entrepreneurs, according to the release.

According to the statement, the ‘Holistic Agriculture Development Programme’ (HADP) to be launched by the Prime Minister will cover the entire spectrum of activities in three major domains: horticulture, agriculture, and livestock husbandry, providing a significant boost to the region’s agri-economy. The plan is expected to provide skill development training to around 2.5 lakh farmers, as well as the establishment of approximately 2,000 farmers’ service centres and the implementation of robust value chains for the benefit of the farming community.

The tourism projects to be launched by PM Modi are consistent with his aim of improving the overall experience of tourists and pilgrims visiting significant pilgrimage and tourism sites around the country by constructing world-class infrastructure and services, according to the release.

Aside from the Hazratbal shrine project, additional initiatives include tourism facilities in Meghalaya’s Northeast Circuit, the Spiritual Circuit in Bihar and Rajasthan, Bihar’s Rural and Tirthankar Circuit, and projects in Telangana and Madhya Pradesh.

The Prime Minister will also launch 43 projects that will develop a wide range of pilgrimage and tourist sites across the country.

“The campaign is being started in response to the Prime Minister’s clarion call, in which he requested that Indian diaspora members encourage at least five non-Indian friends to visit India. The Indian diaspora, with over three crore foreign Indians, can serve as a major catalyst for Indian tourism by acting as cultural ambassadors,” according to the statement.

Strict security measures are in place.

Meanwhile, strict security procedures have been implemented, and the Bakshi Stadium, which will host the prime minister’s rally, has been draped in the tricolor, according to the news agency PTI.

With the Lok Sabha elections around the corner and opposition parties wanting an announcement on assembly polls in Jammu & Kashmir, the Prime Minister’s scheduled visit has taken on a strong political dimension in terms of what he might have to say on the issue. In Srinagar, several schools falling along the route to be taken by the Prime Minister were ordered closed for Wednesday and Thursday, while board examinations scheduled to be held on Thursday were postponed till next month.

Drones and CCTV cameras are being employed for surveillance, and security forces have increased foot patrolling within a two-kilometer radius of the venue. Marine commandos have been stationed in the Jhelum River and Dal Lake to prevent subversive operations from taking place there.

On August 5, 2019, the BJP-led Centre repealed Article 370 and divided the erstwhile state into the Union territories of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh.
