PM Narendra Modi Inaugurates Multiple Development Projects in Uttarakhand, Emphasizes Border Area Development

In a significant event in Uttarakhand, Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently inaugurated and laid the foundation for a series of development projects worth approximately Rs 4,200 crore. While celebrating these milestones, Modi also criticized the previous state government for what he perceived as a lack of progress in the border areas.

Border Area Development: Narendra Modi reiterated the government’s commitment to developing infrastructure in border areas. He pointed out that previous administrations had been hesitant to invest in these regions out of security concerns. Still, India has now moved past such reservations and embarked on an ambitious program to enhance connectivity and accessibility in border areas. Over the last nine years, the government has constructed over 4,200 kilometers of roads, 250 bridges, and 22 tunnels in these regions, with plans to extend railway networks to the borders.
Multifaceted Development Projects: The projects inaugurated by the Prime Minister encompass various sectors, including roads, power, irrigation, drinking water, horticulture, education, health, and disaster management. One Rank One Pension: PM Modi highlighted his government’s fulfillment of the decade-old demand for ‘One Rank One Pension.’ Over Rs 70,000 crore has been disbursed to ex-servicemen, benefiting more than 75,000 families in Uttarakhand. This step has long been a significant concern for the armed forces and veterans, and its implementation is seen as a substantial achievement.
Tourism and Cultural Promotion: Modi emphasized the importance of tourism and cultural promotion for Uttarakhand. He inaugurated the Manaskhand Mandir Mala Mission, a project aimed at making temples in the Kumaon region more accessible to devotees, which is expected to boost tourism. The Prime Minister’s visit to the region is also expected to attract more tourists, potentially boosting the local economy.
Natural Disaster Preparedness: The government is set to allocate Rs 4,000 crore to Uttarakhand over the next four to five years to enhance the state’s capacity to deal with natural disasters, given its vulnerability to landslides and other environmental challenges.
Spiritual and Touristic Significance: During his visit, Modi also undertook spiritual activities, visiting Parvati Kund and Adi Kailash, a site adjacent to the China-Nepal border, considered the residence of Lord Shiva’s family. This draws attention to the cultural and religious significance of Uttarakhand, which has the potential to become a significant tourist destination.
